Mark your calendars for August 12, 2026, when the sky will darken Western Iceland as the spectacular solar eclipse takes center stage—the first in the Reykjavík area since 1433! This rare celestial event will cast a shadow across parts of the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, and Europe, offering a breathtaking opportunity to witness one of nature’s most awe-inspiring phenomena, where day briefly turns to night, leaving onlookers in sheer wonder. Grab your eclipse glasses and learn why Iceland is the perfect destination to experience this awe-inspiring event and prepare for an unforgettable experience that will be discussed for years. Or at least until May 26, 2245, when the next eclipse in the area occurs!

Guests will also be invited to participate in a VR experience to explore Icelandia‘s offerings, such as Glacier Tours, Northern Lights Tours and ATV tours. Prepare to be transported to vast glaciers and black-sand beaches!

Icelandair's Wheel of Prizes will be on-site during the event. Three lucky attendees at several events throughout the weekend will get the chance to spin and win a range of terrific Icelandic prizes.

Bragason is a frequent guest on the radio to talk about science in general and hosts prime-time TV shows on science and technology. He is the author of several best-selling books on science for kids and adults. What Bragason enjoys the most is looking up into a starry sky and showing others the wonders of the universe, whether with the naked eye or through telescopes. He runs websites on Iceland's space weather, northern lights, and the upcoming 2026 eclipse. Bragason has earned several awards and recognitions for outstanding science communication to children and the public.
